Summer may be winding down, but outdoor party season in New Jersey isn't over yet! In fact, September and October can be two of the best months of the year for backyard birthday parties, school events, fall festivals and family celebrations.

Perfect Fall Weather for an Outdoor Party

One of the biggest advantages of a fall party is the weather. The extreme heat and humidity of summer begin to fade, but we're usually not dealing with the cold temperatures that arrive later in the year.

That means kids can spend the afternoon running, jumping and playing on a bounce house, combo inflatable or obstacle course without the intense summer heat.

Parents get to enjoy the cooler weather, too!

Give the Kids a Break From School

September means back to school, homework, studying and busy schedules.

An outdoor party gives kids an opportunity to put the schoolwork aside for a few hours, get outside, burn off some energy and simply be kids again.

Instead of spending another afternoon in front of a television, tablet or phone, give them something they'll be excited about. A bounce house, inflatable slide or obstacle course can keep a group of children entertained and active throughout the party.

Fall Parties Aren't Just for Birthdays

September and October are also great months for school events, PTO/PTA events, church gatherings, community days, block parties, fall festivals and Halloween parties.

Add pumpkins, fall decorations, cider, donuts or Halloween costumes and you've got an easy seasonal theme. Pair it with an inflatable and you've got entertainment that can keep the kids occupied while the adults enjoy the event.

Don't Wait Until the Cold Weather Arrives

Here in New Jersey, the outdoor party season doesn't last forever. Once we get past Halloween and move deeper into November, colder temperatures can make outdoor celebrations much less practical.

So take advantage of these beautiful fall weekends while they're here!

Party Authority LLC has been serving local families and organizations since 1997, providing bounce houses, combo inflatables, obstacle courses and other party rentals throughout Marlboro, Monmouth County and surrounding New Jersey communities.

Whether you're planning a September birthday, October Halloween party, school event or fall festival, we'd love to help make it a great day.

Planning a birthday party, graduation, school event, block party, or other special occasion should be exciting. Unfortunately, scammers have increasingly found ways to take advantage of customers searching online for bounce houses, water slides, dunk tanks, tents, tables, chairs, and other party rentals.

Fake party rental companies can create professional-looking Facebook and Instagram pages, copy photographs from legitimate rental companies, advertise equipment they don't actually own, and collect payments for rentals that never arrive.

At Party Authority, we have been serving families and organizations in New Jersey since 1997. We've watched the party rental industry change dramatically over the years. Today, customers can find hundreds of rental advertisements online within minutes—which makes knowing who you're actually dealing with more important than ever.

Before sending money to someone advertising a bounce house or other party rental online, take a few minutes to verify that you're dealing with a legitimate business.

How Do Party Rental Scams Work?

One common party rental scam starts with an advertisement on Facebook, Instagram, Facebook Marketplace, or another online platform.

The advertisement may show an impressive bounce house, water slide, obstacle course, dunk tank, tent, or other rental at an unusually low price.

When the customer contacts the supposed company, everything may initially seem legitimate. The person answers questions, confirms that the equipment is available for the customer's date, and asks for a deposit or payment to reserve it.

After receiving the money, however, the person may disappear.

The phone stops being answered. Messages go unanswered. The social media account disappears—or, even worse, the customer doesn't realize anything is wrong until the morning of the party when nobody arrives.

Now the customer has lost money and is scrambling to find replacement equipment at the last minute.

10 Ways to Spot a Potentially Fake Party Rental Company

1. Search the Company's Name on Google

Don't rely solely on the advertisement that brought you to the company.

Open Google separately and search the business name.

A legitimate company that has been operating for a meaningful period of time will often leave a substantial digital footprint.

Look for things such as:

  • A business website

  • Google reviews

  • A Google Business Profile

  • Facebook and Instagram pages

  • Customer photographs

  • Reviews posted over a period of years

  • A consistent business phone number

  • References to the company on other websites

If virtually nothing exists outside of a newly created social media page, proceed carefully.

2. Look Carefully at Their Reviews

Reviews are one of the best tools available to consumers—but don't simply look at the star rating.

Read the reviews.

Look at how far back they go.

A legitimate established company might have reviews from last week, last year, five years ago, and even longer.

Be cautious if a supposedly established company has dozens of glowing reviews that suddenly appeared within a very short period of time.

Also look at photographs uploaded by customers. Pictures showing the company's equipment at actual homes, schools, churches, businesses, and community events can help establish that the company really performs the services it advertises.

Check reviews on more than one platform whenever possible.

3. Be Suspicious of Prices That Seem Too Good to Be True

Everyone wants a good deal, but price shouldn't be the only factor when choosing a party rental company.

Commercial inflatable equipment is expensive. So are commercial vehicles, liability insurance, employees, fuel, maintenance, cleaning supplies, storage, repairs, and replacement equipment.

If established companies in your area are charging several hundred dollars for a particular type of inflatable and someone on social media is advertising something comparable for an unbelievably low price, ask yourself why.

A bargain isn't a bargain if nobody shows up on the day of your child's birthday party.

4. Reverse-Search or Compare Their Equipment Photos

Fake rental companies don't necessarily need to own a bounce house to advertise one.

They can simply copy photographs from another company's website or social media account.

Look through the company's website and social media history. Do you see the same inflatables photographed at different events and locations? Do you see delivery vehicles, employees, setup photographs, customer events, or behind-the-scenes pictures?

A company that has operated for years should generally have evidence of actually doing the work.

If every photograph looks like a manufacturer's catalog picture or appears to come from completely different sources, that's worth investigating.

5. Call the Business

Don't be afraid to pick up the phone.

Ask questions such as:

"What happens if it rains?"

"What time do you deliver?"

"Who sets up the inflatable?"

"How much space do I need?"

"What type of electrical outlet is required?"

"How is the inflatable secured?"

Someone who legitimately operates a party rental business should generally be able to answer ordinary operational questions without difficulty.

Be cautious when someone refuses to communicate anywhere except through direct messages or becomes evasive when you ask basic questions about the equipment or rental process.

6. Look at How Long Their Social Media Account Has Been Active

A Facebook page created recently isn't automatically fraudulent—every legitimate business had a first day.

But it deserves additional verification.

Scroll through the company's history.

Do you see photographs from previous seasons? Customer comments? Holiday posts? Weather cancellations? New equipment announcements? Setup photographs? Community events?

A business that has operated continuously for many years generally develops a history that's difficult for a scammer to recreate overnight.

7. Be Careful How You Pay

Be especially cautious when someone insists that you immediately send money through a payment method that offers little ability to recover the funds.

Ask for documentation showing what you're reserving, the rental date, price, delivery information, cancellation policy, and company information.

Keep screenshots, receipts, emails, text messages, and other correspondence relating to the transaction.

Never allow someone to pressure you into sending money simply because they claim another customer is about to take your date.

8. Ask About Insurance

Inflatable rentals aren't simply decorations. They are amusement equipment used by children and adults.

Ask whether the company carries appropriate liability insurance.

Schools, municipalities, churches, corporations, and other organizations frequently require proof of insurance before allowing rental equipment onto their property.

A professional rental operator should understand what a Certificate of Insurance is and be able to discuss insurance requirements with you.

Insurance alone doesn't guarantee that a company is legitimate, but evasiveness about basic safety and insurance questions should make you cautious.

9. Check Whether the Business Information Matches

Scammers sometimes copy the name, photographs, logo, or website information of legitimate businesses.

Compare the information you're seeing.

Does the phone number on Facebook match the company's website?

Does the website link back to the same social media account?

Does the business name match across platforms?

If someone contacts you from a different account and suddenly tells you to send money to an unrelated individual, stop and verify the request directly with the business.

Never assume that because someone uses a company's logo or photographs, they actually represent that company.

10. Trust Your Instincts

If something doesn't feel right, don't let excitement about a low price override your judgment.

Warning signs can include:

  • Extreme pressure to pay immediately

  • Prices dramatically below competitors

  • No independent reviews

  • A newly created social media profile

  • No legitimate website or business presence

  • Stolen-looking photographs

  • Inconsistent phone numbers or business names

  • Refusal to speak by telephone

  • Vague answers about delivery and setup

  • Requests to send money to multiple unrelated people

  • Unexpected additional charges after you've already paid

  • Poor or inconsistent communication

One warning sign doesn't necessarily mean you're dealing with a scammer. Several warning signs together should make you seriously reconsider the transaction.

What Should You Do Before Booking a Bounce House?

Before reserving an inflatable, spend five minutes researching the company.

Search its name.

Read its Google reviews.

Visit its website.

Look through several years of social media activity.

Call the company.

Ask questions.

Verify exactly what you're receiving and what you're paying.

Those few minutes could prevent a very expensive—and disappointing—mistake.

Remember that you're not simply purchasing a product. You're trusting someone to arrive at your home or event on a specific date with the correct equipment and safely install it.

Reliability matters.

Don't Let a Fake Rental Company Ruin Your Party

Birthdays and special events often take months to plan. Unfortunately, discovering on the morning of your event that your bounce house isn't coming can ruin an otherwise wonderful day.

Do your homework before booking.

Choose an established company with a verifiable history, real customer reviews, clear communication, identifiable equipment, and policies you understand.

Saving a few dollars isn't worth risking your entire event.
